Marcelo Cohen was born in 1983 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He started his martial arts training in judo at the age of 9. At 16, he was introduced to jiu-jitsu and began training under Saporito, a Carlsen Gracie black belt. Marcelo received his black belt in 2012 shortly after moving to Jupiter, Florida. A veteran jiu-jitsu competitor, Marcelo is the 2016 & 2019 IBJJF No-Gi Pan American Adult Champion, the 2017 IBJJF American Nationals No-Gi Champion, the 2019 IBJJF Miami Winter Open Champion, the 2018 ADCC Florida Champion, the 2017 IBJJF Atlanta Summer Champion, the 2016 & 2018 IBJJF Atlanta Winter Open Champion, and the 2015 IBJJF Miami Open Champion at Master 1. He is currently ranked #4 in the world at Rooster weight in NoGi and recently added an XFN Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Championship belt to his long list of accomplishments. Despite the mountain of combat sports belts and medals, Marcelo is a total sweetheart and truly one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He spends his days as the head instructor of The Armory in Jupiter, FL and is one of the best kids coaches in the sport.
