The development and support of talented athletes is a key tenant of the success of Penguin Fingers.

Kyra is a 23 yr old professional climber based out of Salt Lake City, UT. One of the strongest female climbers in the sport, Kyra took home gold at the 2019 U.S. Climbing Combined Invitational. She followed that up by qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics at the IFSC Combined Qualifier in Toulouse, France, and is one of only 3 American Sport Climbers qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Kyra is motivated by goals in both national and international competitions as well as outdoor climbing. Known for her regimented training routine and love of animals, she hopes to attend veterinary school in the near future. Kyra was using Penguin Fingers for recovery and injury prevention before we sponsored her or even met her, so being invited to support her journey to the top is an extraordinary honor for us.

Andi is an avid 22 year old rock climber from Southern California. She was introduced to the sport of climbing in 2016 and a new hobby quickly became a passion. Dedicated to the climber’s lifestyle of constant improvement, Andi spends all of her spare time either bouldering or expanding her skills at the climbing gym. She loves to backpack and is also a full-time nutrition student. Her plans for the future include travel to climbing spots around the world, and redefining her limits within bouldering. Andi is exactly the type of athlete we make Penguin Fingers for and we couldn’t be happier to have her onboard!

Marcelo Cohen was born in 1983 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He started his martial arts training in judo at the age of 9. At 16, he was introduced to jiu-jitsu and began training under Saporito, a Carlsen Gracie black belt. Marcelo received his black belt in 2012 shortly after moving to Jupiter, Florida. A veteran jiu-jitsu competitor, Marcelo is the 2016 & 2019 IBJJF No-Gi Pan American Adult Champion, the 2017 IBJJF American Nationals No-Gi Champion, the 2019 IBJJF Miami Winter Open Champion, the 2018 ADCC Florida Champion, the 2017 IBJJF Atlanta Summer Champion, the 2016 & 2018 IBJJF Atlanta Winter Open Champion, and the 2015 IBJJF Miami Open Champion at Master 1. He is currently ranked #4 in the world at Rooster weight in NoGi and recently added an XFN Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Championship belt to his long list of accomplishments. Despite the mountain of combat sports belts and medals, Marcelo is a total sweetheart and truly one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He spends his days as the head instructor of The Armory in Jupiter, FL and is one of the best kids coaches in the sport. As our first sponsored athlete, Marcelo has been an amazing ambassador for Penguin Fingers, and at this point we consider him family. Thank you for believing in us big guy!!

Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt John Combs grew up just North of LA, competing in wrestling during high school, and receiving NCWA All-American wrestling honors while attending college at CU Boulder. John’s life changed in 2010 when he discovered Brazilian jiu-jitsu at Easton Training Center in Boulder, CO. Under the instruction of decorated black belts Amal Easton and Eliot Marshall, John won gold at the 2016 IBJJF Pan Ams as a brown belt, submitting his entire bracket in under 6 minutes. His breakout performance however, was in the invite-only 2016 Copa Podio tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He competed with such athleticism and heart that his performance inspired the short film, One Night in Argentina: The Legend of John Combs. Since being promoted to black belt, John has taken gold at the 2018 IBJJF Denver Open and the 2019 ADCC West Coast Trials, and won many, many other matches against world class competitors, frequently by the submission he’s most feared for, the guillotine. We are proud to have him represent us and we look forward to his continued rise in 2020!
